Please note this is a PRE-ORDER item - as we don't expect the yarn to be available to dye for several months, this kit will be shipped from November onwards. Any other items ordered with it will be held and sent together.

This gorgeous pattern, designed by Eri Shimizu, will be available in the autumn. It's being published as part of a book celebrating 10 years of Fil Chofu (our Japanese retailer). Once the print book (in Japanese) is published, the English patterns will be available for purchase singly. Masham and Leicester DK dyes differently to other bases. Please refer to the photos for a guide as to how the yarn will look.
Protea is a top-down, saddle-shoulder cable sweater.
The original pullover, shown in the pattern, was knit in colourways Grit (smaller size) and Embers (oversize version)

The Uncommon Thread Masham and Leicester DK (75% Bluefaced leicester, 25% mid brown masham wool - 240 m / 262 yards per 100 g), color Grit (dark gray) or Embers (Red), 5 (5, 5, 6, 6) (7, 7, 8) skeins Approximately 980 (1035, 1170, 1255, 1400) (1505, 1620, 1720) m / 1075 (1130, 1280, 1375, 1530) (1645, 1770, 1880) yards of DK weight yarn.
Recommended ease
5-7.5 cm / 2-3” of positive ease.
The grey version shown (knit in Grit) is a size 1 with 9cm / 3 ½" of positive ease. The orange version (knit in Embers) is a size 5 with 48cm / 19" of positive ease.

Kit Sizes
You will receive 5 (5, 5, 6, 6) (7, 7, 8) skeins of Masham and Leicester DK in the colourway of your choice (select from the drop down menu)
Please note that the kit is for the yarn only. You'll need a copy of the pattern (available in the autumn) to knit this sweater.
As with other hand-dyed yarns, we would recommend alternating skeins every two rows or so.
We care deeply about the environment and we're aware of the effects that chemicals can have on it, so we make every effort to exhaust all dyes in the dyebath so that no nasties go down the plughole. It is not always possible to exhaust *all* the dye, all the time, especially with certain dyeing techniques, so if you intend on using your yarn for colourwork or with paler colours it pays to give it a wash first, just to be sure.
We try to ensure all colours look true on our monitor but they can vary substantially. If you’re unsure about a particular colourway please get in touch!
