US Tariffs
Those of you in the US will be aware that import tariffs are now in play.  This is super complex and not easy to add to our online shop, unfortunately. Royal Mail, which we use to send all parcels, requires us to send duty paid, as parcels were being returned otherwise. So the shipping costs you see as you check out include everything (the tariff cost and shipping costs are shown separately as you check out) and you won't have any more to pay once the parcel arrives.
For yarn only: I know that the tariffs being charged are not always correct and I'm very happy to refund any difference to make up for this. I'm working with the company that calculates this to try and correct it, but it's not straightforward, unfortunately.
Having looked into it, I learned that dyeing (or hand dyeing) doesn't significantly change the product from a customs point of view, so the country we need to list on the customs form is where the yarn is spun. Most of our yarns are spun in Peru (10% tariff) or Italy (15%), with a couple in the UK (10%) and one (Merino DK) in South Africa (30%). In the interest of transparency, the country of origin for each yarnis listed under ‘all yarn’.
I hope this clarifies things and reassures you that the costs are being kept as low as possible.
