The Uncommon Thread

PRE-ORDER - Gypsophila Yarn Kit

Please note this is a PRE-ORDER item - it'll be dyed to order and posted at the end of October. Any other items ordered with it will be held and sent together.

This gorgeous pattern, designed by Eri Shimizu, will be available in the autumn. It's being published as part of a book celebrating 10 years of Fil Chofu (our Japanese retailer). Once the print book (in Japanese) is published, the English patterns will be available for purchase singly. Divine Lace tends to dye paler and softer than most other yarns, so bear this in mind when choosing your colour as the colour sample photos have been dyed in a different yarn.

Gypsophila is a rectangular shawl knitted in one piece from the center to the outer edge. You knit the body in a subtle dot stitch reminiscent of baby’s breath, then increase stitches in one go in the Bloom section to finish with petal-like ruffles in the Corolla section.

The original shawl, shown in the pattern, was knit in colourway Powder Puff. We have created the colourway Kawaii especially for this kit.

Finished Measurements
Sample 1: 60 cm x 132 cm / 23 ½” x 52” Sample 2: 57 cm x 127 cm / 22 ½” x 50”

Kit Sizes
You will receive 2 skeins of Divine Lace in the colourway of your choice (please select from the drop down menu)

Please note that the kit is for the yarn only. You'll need a copy of the pattern (available in the autumn) to knit this pattern.

As with other hand-dyed yarns, we would recommend alternating skeins every two rows or so.

We care deeply about the environment and we're aware of the effects that chemicals can have on it, so we make every effort to exhaust all dyes in the dyebath so that no nasties go down the plughole. It is not always possible to exhaust *all* the dye, all the time, especially with certain dyeing techniques, so if you intend on using your yarn for colourwork or with paler colours it pays to give it a wash first, just to be sure.

We try to ensure all colours look true on our monitor but they can vary substantially. If you’re unsure about a particular colourway please get in touch!
